White Buttercream Wedding Cake with Roses

I love absolutely everything about this rustic vintage DIY wedding at Willow Spring Farm in Virginia! The bridesmaids dresses are the prettiest shade of pink and the bouquets are fluffy (my favorite kind) and GORGEOUS!!! The reception was beautifully decorated and the cake looks almost too pretty to eat!! The bride’s excitement to get down the aisle and marry her husband was written all over her face and completely adorable!! The whole wedding is rustic vintage DIY at it’s best! Captured with love by Kimberly Florence Photography and styled to perfection by Dear Sweetheart Events!!

Michael was a freshman at Bridgewater College when Ali, a senior in high school, came to celebrate her birthday weekend with friends. They met through their mutual friends and Ali instantly melted when she heard him sing! They only kept in touch a little after that weekend, but reconnected when she came to school in the fall.

Their friendship was rocky at best. They only got along some of the time, but were always around one another because they had the same group of friends.

Michael was also in a band, and every time Ali would see him play, she’d tell her friends she was going to marry him!

Two years later, while Ali was away in California for a class after Christmas break, they started talking and texting a lot. For some reason, they started saying “I love you” on the phone. He said it first and she said, “No, you don’t!!” But he did. And when he picked her up from the airport a few days later, he asked her to be his girlfriend! She’s pretty sure they’ve said “I love you” over a million times since.

Michael purchased the ring four months before he proposed! He was in the midst of preparing to go back to school in the fall and get his MBA and talked frequently about his “five-year-plan” to throw off any of Ali’s suspicions.

Last summer, Ali and Michael went to the beach with his family and close family friends. She mentioned wanting to get dressed up one evening and take some pictures on the beach, so they agreed to do that at the end of the week.

On Thursday, Ali fixed her hair, put on a little makeup, and walked down to the beach with Michael, his sister, her husband, and his brother. As they walked, Ali told Michael she didn’t really want to take pictures anymore because she hated her dress, but Michael convinced her otherwise.

As they walked along the beach, Ali made to stop and wait for the others to catch up, but Michael told her they were all walking to the same spot and that they’d catch up. He started asking her weird questions (that she can’t even remember anymore) and the next thing she knew, he was down on one knee! She said yes, of course!

In hindsight, she should have known something was up because he’d paid for her to get a manicure before heading to the beach! (She’d told him early on to be sure her nails were painted whenever he proposed!!) Good man for remembering that little tidbit 😉

{From the Bride} I have been thinking about it every single day! It was amazing. The getting ready and downtime went by SO SLOW!! I was just so ready to walk down the aisle and be his wife!! Being with my closest friends all day was one of my favorite parts. It was extraordinary. I really loved that because it doesn’t happen as often as it should.

We did not see one another before the ceremony and I loved it! When it was time for the ceremony to start, I wasn’t really emotional until I heard him sing. He wrote me a song and sang before the bridesmaids went down the aisle. I was around the corner crying my eyes out with my dad. It was an amazing moment with him, too, because he just hugged me as I was crying off all my fresh makeup!

Walking down the aisle was amazing, too. I looked at Michael’s face a lot, and tried to take in everyone around me. One of my favorite parts of the ceremony was when the officiant (Michael’s dad married us!!) told us to turn and look at everyone who came to see us. We really got a chance to take it all in and see all of the smiling faces of those we love most.

It was absolutely perfect. It was a dream. You know when you play those moments in your head, where you map out the perfect scenario, but they are usually unrealistic and rarely happen? Well, the perfect day I imagined, and played over and over in my head, happened even better than it did in my dreams.

{Advice for Couples} Keep in mind that your wedding is not your marriage!!! Oh, and hire a wedding coordinator!! You won’t regret it.
